About Cootharaba Beef Genes

The operation has its headquarters at "Duarran" 10km south of Roma QLD, Australia and is run by Ian & Anne Galloway.

This seed stock operation involves Herefords (1926), Poll Herefords (1979), Red Angus (1988), Red & Black Brangus (1988), Bonsmara's & Droughtmasters (2006).

A cow herd of 1600 breeders is run on 4 properties in the Roma district (Duarran, Cooroora, Maffra and Bidarli) and 2 properties in the Mitchell district (Morwhena and Kimberly Downs) totalling 17,200 Ha (43,000 acres).

This is a huge undertaking to process and manage these different herds of cattle - we are able to do this with the separation of properties.

We market 280-300 bulls annually and females are sold privately. Our steers are our joy and being E.U accredited come back at good money. We are always trailing the performance of our steers and have been very successful in FeedBack Trials (1st and 2nd placings in the weight gain all breeds, 2.55-2.58 kg / day over 100 days) and taste tests (1st prize Brisbane Royal Show 2005). Our results have been very competitive in the years since then also, with placings in the weight gain and taste tests.
