Duarran Brangus /Red Angus sale held at Duarran on Oct 19th proved the worth of selling all bulls at our own sale. With a 95% clearance the average for the entire sale was $4008 The Red Brangus topped twice at $12,000 - these bulls going to Don & Kay Gordon at Alpha, the other to Samari Plains at Roma. These were sons of Duarran Zeuss and Doonside Benny respectively, and showed great temperament and performance. Jay Tee Bee Brangus paid $9000 for a son of Duarran Beresford, a calf with wonderful muscling weighing 860kgs at 23 months and an EMA of 141 Sq cm. Redline Brangus chose an $8500 deep bodied son of Duarran Bicheno who showed great style and fertility. 85 Red Brangus sold to average $4250 and went from Katherine in the Territory and Julia Creek in the north to all parts of Qld. Our repeat and bulk buyers are much appreciated, as are the under bidders. 33 Red Angus sold to a top of $7500 to average $3575. El Paso was bought by WH Kettle & Co who selected four super bulls to average $6125. Hubbard Past chose Res Snr Champ from Brisbane for $7000 to use over mainly droughtmaster cows. The Pedersen family returned again to select a great draft of 4 bulls to avearge $5000. Pancho Beef from the NT chose well to acquire a draft of 14 bulls to average just over $3000, while Webb Cattle Co selected 9 to average $2666.Douglas Cattle Co bought a selection of 5 bulls for an average of $3100 4 Bonsmaras averaged $3875 with two going to far north west NSW and two staying locally at Mitchell. On a perfect spring day 45 Hereford and Poll Herefords sold to average $5000. The top price bull, Lot 3, Cootharaba Promo - another outstanding son of Monreid P Express, was bought by the Oprhant Family from Gunalda for $12,000 for their Westbank Stud. Second top price of $11,000 was paid by Autumnvale, Injune for a Charvel Benefit son with great growth and carcase. Ardrossan secured the bull of their choice, paying $9000 for another super son of Cootharaba Middleton. Many return buyers took bulls to Taroom, Goondiwindi, St George, Injune, Eidsvold and south to Wauchope. Sincere thanks to buyers and underbidders.

Thursday 21st July was OPEN DAY 2011 at Duarran. The sale bulls - Herefords and Poll Herefords, Red & Balck Brangus and Red Angus were on display, along with the show team. A delicious BBQ lunch was shared with visitors, some of whom were from as far away as Victoria. Magnum magnificent again in 2011 - Pictured - Glendan Park Empire - $62,000 son bought in partnership with Yarrum Park Herefords The impact of Cootharaba Magnum, a Hereford bull bred by Ian & Anne Galloway of Duarran, Roma, was enormous again at this years National Hereford Show and Sale at Wodonga this month. Magnum was sold at the Cootharaba on property sale to Glendan Park Herefords and Marwarra Herefords in Victoria for $42,000 in 2007. With 10 out of the 140 bulls sired by Magnum, show day was his. Magnum's progeny stood out in every class they entered and this was borne out with the results. Junior, Intermediate, Reserve Intermediate, Senior, Grand and Reserve Grand Champions were all sons of this magnificent sire. Sale day found these bulls in great demand for their carcase quality and figures, style, weight for age and overall appeal. A top price of $70,000 for a 24 month old son, is the highest price ever paid at the Wodonga complex. The second top price was $62,000 paid for a 27 month son. The top 7 priced bulls were all by Cootharaba Magnum - the 10 sons of his sold for an average of $27,600. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In contrast to the ultra-hot, droughty sale day in 09, the Duarran sale 2010 was held on a perfect spring day with green grass everywhere. Bulls went to McKinlay in the north, Nebo and Kenilworth towards the coast and St George in the south. A good number of bulls went locally. A spirited sale saw a total clearance of all breeds (80 bulls - Red & BLack Brangus, Red Angus, Red Brahman and Bonsmara ), with many return buyers and a sprinkling of new. Brisbane Junior Champion Brangus bull Duarran Eddie by Doonside Eddie made top price of $13,000 and was purchased by Gavin McKenzie for his Tannyfoil Stud. He weighrd 904 kgs at 21months with an EMA of 129 sq cms.
The 22 Red Angus bulls sold to average $4000 with the top price of $12,000 being paid by the Gilmore family of Kenilworth for a son of Leader Toll Collector. Eight Black Brangus sold to a top of $5500 to average just under $4000, with over half of them being locally purchased, 3 of them by the Lister family. Two Red Brahman averaged $4500 For the first time at auction we offered 5 Bonsmara Bulls - they sold to a top of $7500 and averaged $4800. The top price bull was a 968 kg son of Op-Die -Aarde VV01-233 who had an EMA of 137sq cm, and was purchased by Watonga Grazing .

****ALL WITH PROGENY of COOTHARABA MAGNUM**** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From our record drought of years ending late Dec 09 to our record flood of early March 2010 life has been interesting this year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COOTHARABA HEREFORD SALE was held Wed 8/9/10 with perfect weather and green grass in the paddocks - a huge contrast to to the last few years. 51/52 bulls sold with a top price of $9500 and an average of $4125. Repeat buyers were a feature of the day - their loyalty well appreciated. Top price bull was bought by the Warrian family from Injune.

-------------------------------------------------------- At the August 2010 TRURO HEREFORD Sale, top priced bull at $9000 was sired by COOTHARABA MENDEZ . 9 sons averaged $4333 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the August 2010 Amos Vale Sale, top priced bull of $9250 was sired by COOTHARABA METEOR (2006 Ekka Junior and Grand Champ). His sons averaged $5050. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our cattle are continuing to perform - 80 steers had an average daily gain of 3.12kgs over an eighty day period at the end of 2009 at the Bellevue Feedlot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In May 10, at Wodonga National Hereford Show and Sale, 3 sons of Cootharaba Magnum did extremely well. They won 2 firsts and a second ribbon, Junior and Grand Champion and Reserve Junior Champion for Marwarra hfds. These three sons sold for an average of $22,000 - on of them topping the sale at $40,000. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the same time DUARRAN BRANGUS bulls won first and second place in the pairs of unled bulls at the Mitchell Show. The first pair also tied for first in 'the peoples choice' class, and have generated a lot of interest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2010 has started on a brighter note with wonderful falls of rain that have at last filled all creeks and dams, and rejuvenated the parched paddocks. The cattle are as delighted as we are !! With small but quality teams of Brangus and Hereford catlle, the Duarran & Cootharaba studs of Ian & Anne Galloway of Duarran, Roma came home with a swag of ribbons. The Cootharaba Hereford team consisted of 2 bulls and 2 cows and became the Most Successful Exhibitor of the Hereford Breed.
Cootharaba also won the Breeders Group, and the Sires Progeny Stakes with offspring of Monreid P Express. DUARRAN BRANGUS showed only 3 bulls, two of whom were in the 16-20 month class. Duarran Cartwright won this class, went on to win Junior Champion Brangus bull, and then the top honours of GRAND CHAMPION BRANGUS BULL. He will be for sale here at Duarran at the on property Brangus sale Wed 21st October.
Duarran Coochiemudlo, who weighed 1092 kgs and an eye muscle area of 132, came second in his class, and then went on to win the Reserve Senior Champion Bull. He is for sale as LOT 2 at the RED BRANGUS CLASSIC sale to be held at Gracemere Selling Centre on Tuesday 29th September at 10 am. The Galloways also entered a pen of Hereford and a pen of Brangus steers in the 100 day fed Paddock to Palate competition as part of the Ekka. White face cattle came 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th in the weight gain, with the Cootharaba steers being the 3rd Prize winners All in all, a great show for the Galloways. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AG GROW 09 Five Duarran Red Brangus and 2 Red Angus bulls sold at Ag Grow in early July. That is - 7/7 sold with prices ranging from $3000 - $7000, meeting all markets and going to both repeat and new buyers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
